Spreading Love in Arusha: Supporting Children With Disabilities

A few weeks ago, two of our LOTUS Humanitarian board members traveled to Arusha, Tanzania for our first partner trip with She Dares to Wander—a journey filled with purpose, compassion, and impact. One of the most meaningful parts of their trip was visiting the Tambua Utu Foundation, a local non-governmental organization dedicated to advocating for the rights of people with disabilities.

Tambua Utu works tirelessly to ensure that children and adults with disabilities have equal access to education, opportunities, and dignity. Their mission is simple yet profound: to make sure no child is left behind. They provide access to formal education, assistive devices like wheelchairs and walkers, and create pathways for confidence, freedom, and joy.

During our visit, we witnessed the daily struggles and the extraordinary resilience of these children and their families. Many of the children we met had been unable to attend school—not because of a lack of intelligence or willpower—but because they lacked the mobility devices that would allow them to move freely, attend class, and participate in daily life.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, LOTUS Humanitarian was able to donate eight wheelchairs and two walkers to Tambua Utu Foundation. These gifts are so much more than equipment—they are keys to education, independence, and possibility.

But this is only the beginning. The need in Tanzania is great. Hundreds of children are still waiting for the chance to go to school, waiting for the freedom that mobility can provide.
