Nestled on the remote and beautiful Koome Island in Uganda, the Neighbors of Chimps Preparatory School stands as a symbol of hope — where education nurtures both children and community, and harmony is rebuilt between humans and nature.
The school was founded in response to the challenges faced by local families living near wild chimpanzees. Over time, deforestation and scarcity have created tension between people and wildlife. By educating the next generation, this school is bridging that divide — teaching compassion, conservation, and coexistence.
Its name, Neighbors of Chimps, reflects a vision of shared belonging — that people and animals can live together in balance and respect.
💛 What Neighbors of Chimps Does
- Provides free, quality education for children on Koome Island who would otherwise have no access to schooling
- Teaches environmental awareness and peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife
- Serves as a community hub for learning, nutrition, and social support
- Promotes sustainability and self-reliance through farming initiatives and local engagement
